So for fun I thought we might share our most weirdest, off this planet side effects. Nothing so mundane as weight gain and tiredness.

I get seriously dry elbows and knees from lithium. Sometimes, when it's really bad my elbows crack like the heels of ones feet. That can be really sore especially when you bang your elbow on something.

I also get fissures (cracks) on the sides of my mouth from parnate. These fissure have never healed.

Current medications as of 02-20-2011
06-22-2009 - Present: Lithium, 250 mg. 1 x 250mg 2 x 250mg
06-22-2009 - Present: Omega Oils, 1000mg. 2 x 1000mg
08-06-2009 - Present: Eltroxin, 0.1mg. 1 x 0.1mg once a day
10-03-2010 - Present: Parnate, 10mg. 30mg morning & 40mg night
11-01-2010 - Present: Lamictin, 25mg. 100mg morning 50mg night

WOW BB,

That's gnarly! Doesn't sound like much fun at all.

I have gout & have been having an attack in my right hand & wrist for the past week - had to go to the hospital & not supposed to be typing til FRI., BUT I need my MT!

Anyway yesterday was my birthday & I had to spend laying in bed w/my arm up in the air...really sucked....I'm 44...I have nonstandard medicaid, so they wouldn't even give me a sling. What am I supposed to do? I guess I 'll have to hold my arm up in the air 24/7.

I'm so far behind in my studies BUT I think I'm finally going to be prescribed Vyvanse for my ADHD. My therapist says she has a child that has it really bad & I am just as bad. Enough about me....

I'm wondering if you could be prescribed some of these new medical (almost said medieval!) lotions that are super potent? When I got 2nd & 3rd degree burns I had to use this lotion that acted as my skin where there wasn't any ~ gross, I know.

Take Care BB,

-lyman

Seroquel cured my seasonal allergies. Wellbutrin gave me heartburn and a wicked tremor. Too much depakote sets my brain racing.

wellbutrin made me able to concentrate on sex w hub the first time I took it in 01 (instead of having a million and one things on my mind) the second time in 04 it made me have a rage attack on my mom (verbal)

prozac triggered mania after the first increase and then a mixed mood the second time it was increased this past year, I'd never taken it before.

zoloft made me exercise intensely for hours every day but gave me migraines so I stopped it.

depakote made me a serious zombie where I was slurring my words hours after I had gotten out of bed.

seroquel is making me sleepy. (that's ok at night but not in the day)

for the most part, no real effects from the meds I"m on now. I"m on the doses of lamictal and effexor that I started with, the only additional daily med is the seroquel. this seems to be a working combo for now.

oh I was going to say, I've had those cracks in the corners of my mouth before, I know they are so painful. anyway, I saw my dr for something unrelated and she told me it was a fungus, a ketoconazole cream is what she prescribed. you might look into that. I mean if it also looks like you have dry skin going down towards your chin

Prozac is some crazy stuff. I have a number of friends that swear by it, but it made me homicidal within hours of taking 1.

Ardent, I know this is off topic, but I've been worried about you, and found those links to low cost to no cost Meds and health plans and posted it here in a thread. I may have mixed things up in my mind (and that's a minute by minute occurrence), but I thought you were looking for that kind of info? If not, just ignore my ramblings. I'm glad to see you post.

Wellbutrin gave me wicked wicked nightmares
Serequel gained 30 pounds in a week (told the doc not happening)
Simvastatin made me serious manic didn't sleep at all for 2 1/2 days
Topamax ruined the flavor of all carbonated drinks until my body adjusted to it now I can eat or drink anything again

Just had my Depakote dropped to 500 mg and my Lamactil upped to 100 mg. Trying to ween off the Depakote. So far no side effects from that.

I tend to fall down alot and bruise easy but they think it's from my Lupus. Those invisible holes get me all the time

I have serious cottonmouth from my new med Vyvanse - it was already bad from Depakote which is a salt base. I am drinking water & peeing all the time...temporary I hope.

Bupropion (Wellbutrin, Zyban) makes me get goosebumps all over, but especially my arms & neck. Don't know what the allopurinol (for gout) does yet.

Current medications as of 02-24-2011
04-20-2010 - Present: Depakote (divalproex), 750mg . 1 @ bedtime
04-20-2010 - Present: Seroquel (quetiapine), 100 to 300. @ nite only
11-02-2010 - Present: bupropion SR, 150 mg. twice daily
12-21-2010 - Present: Strattera (atomoxetine), 80mgs. 1 a day
02-22-2011 - Present: Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine dimesylate), 40mg. 1 upon wakening
02-22-2011 - Present: Zyloprim (allopurinol), 300mg. 1 a day

Lamictal - gave me a nasty rash which was diagnosed as Steven Johnson's Syndrome. It's a potentially lethal reaction where your skin basically rots/eats itself from the inside out.

Saphris- makes me fall asleep within 10 minutes. It also makes me sweat a whole lot more, in addition to making my tongue go numb and altering the taste of anything I eat. Today I tried a Lindt truffle and it tasted like bakers chocolate : (

Tegretol- I'm not sure if it's the tegretol or if this just happens due to my med combo, but I get this blank look on my face and totally zone out/stare at some random object. I can hear everything going on but don't really respond. It only lasts a minute or 2 and its really weird when it happens. It freaks the crap out of my sister.

Adderall- makes me crave nicotine like crazy. I'll smoke like a chimney. I mean to the point where I don't even want another cigg but I find myself lighting up anyway.

Wellbutrin- My body becomes covered head to toe in hives

Ativan- if I take it when I'm not super anxious it'll make me "cry." By that I mean tears will be streaming down my face, and emotionally I'll be upset, but with none of the sobbing/sniffling/trouble breathing that usually accompanies normal crying. Its kind of strange to see, actually.

Current medications as of 03-03-2011
09-01-2009 - Present: Adderall, 30 mg. three times per day
09-01-2009 - Present: Tegretol XR, 200 mg. 3 pills twice daily
09-01-2009 - Present: Zoloft, 100 mg. once daily
12-01-2009 - Present: Provigil, 200 mg. two pills once daily
05-08-2010 - Present: Ativan, 1 mg. daily/as needed
07-01-2010 - Present: Valium, 5 mg. daily/as needed
01-22-2011 - Present: Saphris, 10 mg. once daily
02-15-2011 - Present: Lovaza, 1000 mg. 2 pills twice daily

JLSschmidt,
What did that lamictal rash look like. I have psoriasis and cold weather can make me break out. So now Im paranoid that my recent break out has to do with my lamictal. Was it just red skin or did it have blisters or what?
Just trying to figure it out
Thanks

The rash associated with Steven Johnsons starts out reddish-purple and spreads pretty quickly. But a lot of the time you experience flu-like symptoms even before the rash (fever, aches, chilles, ect.) It eventually starts to blister and can also effect your mucous membranes. (Luckily I was in in-patient treatment and they caught my reaction in the earliest stages)

Steven Johnsons is a rare reaction to medications, not just Lamictal but medications in general but its very serious. If you think you have it call your doctor, most likely it's something else (hopefully) but better safe than sorry.

If you Google image search the syndrome you'll find plenty of pictures and here's a link on some information from the Mayo Clinic:

Depakote made me grow a cup size...weird, but not unwanted.
Lexapro made me want to kill myself 24/7.
Something made me unable to eat. I was on prozac, depokote, buspar and resperidone at the time and it was many years ago so I have no idea which one it was. I just couldn't force myself to eat anything, it made me physically and mentally sickened by food. I was miserable.
Everything gives me tremors...or worse tremors I should say.
