The lamactil is working to stabilize my moods although my irritability has intensified. Anyone else with lamactil experience? I hope this one doesn't Peter out like all the others

do you mean Lamictal/Lamotrigine? if so then yes i'm taking it, 200mg and going semi steady, i've been taking it for about half a year now i think. yeah i get irritable, but i think that's just my nature cause i'm like that even without meds, if not more so.

i can tell you one good thing that's happened, i can THINK, like a huge fog has been lifted, okay its not 100% and i still have crappy days when i lay in bed i can't think at all, but now i can REMEMBER so much stuff that had happened. I can even remember when i'm in a high and what i've done, which is amazing as before i couldn't tell you anything and would just told it by my family.

i see that your on a low dose at the moment, stick in there and keep updating your mood chart. the irritability may pass, if not then you can always tell your doctor and see if its causing it.

For me, Lamictal at 200mg/day definitely did not shield me from going down into a pretty deep depression. It may be helping keep me from escalating too high - since I have been on the Lamictal that has not been too much of a problem for me.

The unique thing about Lamictal (other than a reputation for a considerably gentler side effect profile compared to the other stabilizers) is that it is known to often have an antidepressant effect. I am considering upping the dose to see if this is true for me.

Overall, I have been very happy with it, as I have no side effects. There is the whole rash thing, but if you are already up to 200mg, you are probably not going to have that trouble.

Medications for April 2011
04-02-2011 - Present:Lamictal, 200 mg. Once a day
04-02-2011 - Present:Prozac (brand name), 80 mg. Once per day
04-02-2011 - Present:Wellbutrin XL, 150 mg. Once per day
04-02-2011 - Present:Provigil, 300 mg. Once per day (divided dose 200/100)

Hey CJ.

I note that you also tke cymbalta. I take cymbalta and lamictal as well. I was at first only on cymbalta and it did help with the depression somewhat. My pdoc then prescribed lamictal and at first I thought it must be a mistake as my mood was still all over the place. He upped the cymbalta and then the lamictal until I was at the top dose of each before I really had more control over my irritability and depression. I take 60 mg cymbalta 2x daily and 200 mg lamictal 2 times dailly. I am SO much better on the mood spectrum.

Just keep your pdoc informed on how you feel and any concerns you have about your medication ~ my pdoc was great and considered taking me off the cymbalta several times because he thought it was revving me up too much, but he added the lamictal until it finally balanced out the moods.

So far so good after 1 1/2 years (give or take a few months)
