I love this med, I was taking a lot of other meds with this one but came to realize all I need is this one med. What is your take on Geodon?

Was off and on Geodon for a couple years. It never worked for me, I gained weight, and had other side effects. It never worked for me at all. I'm on Lithium now, as well as Symbyax and that seems to be working.

I find it regulating my mood too Bob. The only side effect was blurry vision, but he added Cogentin to kill it, and it has. Melconrad I use to take lithium and it gave me a SERIOUS rash, I'm glad to hear its working for you Bob, and for you Melconrad that you found something that works for you.

I recently started Geodon for my anxiety. It works great and I havent experienced any serious side effects except for the blurry vision. Will try and sort that out at my next visit to my pdoc.

Hi
I started Geodon four years ago. It has changed my life so much for the better that if my Dr were to take me off of it I'd find another Dr. ... I could be a poster child for Geodon. lol

Just wanted to note here that blurred vision can be a result of elevated blood sugar. Geodon is also one of the meds that is known to cause people to develop diabetes. I was on it, but for a very short time, as shortly after I was put on it I was diagnosed with diabetes, so I never had a chance to see if it actually had any positive effect. Just make sure that your physician tracks your blood sugars if you are having these kind of side effects. Better safe then sorry. It really sucks having to inject myself with insulin every day.

I am on Geodon but I can't take the prescribed dose because it's so sedating. I'm supposed to be on 40 mg night and day but can only manage to take 20 at night. It knocks me out 1 1/2 hours after I take it. I have no appetite and can barely eat. Also, when I was titrating down from 40mg to 20mg, I thought I was dying. Laid in bed for 2 weeks and missed a lot of work. I asked for Abilify but they didn't prescribe it. Have to wait 3 weeks to see the pdoc now.

ArdentOne, wow I did not know that about my beloved Geodon, I will make sure that I ask my doctor to keep up with my blood sugars. Thanks a lot!!

Valtrate, I have found out now that I am only on Geodon my appetite has decreased as well (that's a good thing for me). Oh no Geodon is not for you hun, maybe the Abilify will work, I hope they give it to you when you go. I would stop cold turkey if it did me like that because the sedation thing will never go away. Or take it only at night, I've done that when trying to hold on to my sanity and I couldn't get a new med from my doctor until I would see him weeks later.

I didn"t know about the diabetes thing. That would be terrible. I have a physical every year and so far so good no diabetes. Geodon helped me lose weight. I was on Abilify for a while and gained a lot of weight. Now I have a normal appitite and can eat anything and so far so good no weight gain. For the last five years at least. It takes a little time to get used to the sleep thing because it puts me to sleep about an hour after I take it and I stay asleep until morning. Hope this helps. Bob

I also love Geodon! I have been on it for a couple of years now. The only complaint I have is that it does not have a generic and can be expensive. I also have blurry vision, but did not attribute it to the Geodon. Does the Cogentin really work?

Songbird welcome to the Geodon family, isn't it great?! The Cogentin in conjunction really works, and now my vision isn't as blurry, grant it that I've been on Cogentin for almost a week.

I have been on Geodon for about 10 years and it is fantastic. It was not the first med that we tried but was the first one that actually worked, worked well, and had no side effects (for me). I wish they had a generic version, but I have insurance so it isn't too bad. I was laid off in 2010 for a few months and had to pay out of pocket, and it was ~$700 per month! Thankfully, the manufacturer himplemented a program for people out of work, so I got free Geodon for a while (you had to have been taking it previously for at least 3 months prior).

Medications for 2nd quarter 2011
12-15-2010 - Present:Depakote ER, 1500 mg. Once in evening
12-15-2010 - Present:Geodon, 120 mg. Once in evening
12-15-2010 - Present:Ambien, 12.5. Once in evening
12-15-2010 - Present:Ativan/Lorazepam, 0.5. Twice per day

Yes Grateful Geodon is fantastic! I'm blessed to have the insurance I have which covers the total cost of the med. $700 per month is ridiculous.

I have only been on Geodon a few weeks and was enjoying the anxiety free days. Since increasing the dosage I have been close to comatose almost every day. Sad to say I need to lower the dose or stop altogether. Yes, it's good to be anxiety free and sleeping all day but it's counter-productive. I don't know when I'm going to find an anti-psychotic that will work for me.

Awww BerryBee, sounds like the dose need to be lowered, because too much can make you sleepy. I hope you can figure it out with your doc. Because to me this anti-psychotic is my cure all.

I only take Geodon at night because it is so sedating to me. I used to split the dose between morning and evening but it was too difficult to stay awake during the day especially at work, so now I take it all at once at night. By the time I wake up 7-8 hours later, I'm refreshed and ready to go.
