I was diagnosed bipolar II a little over a year or so ago. As with many people who deal with bipolar I have more than one disorder. I have mild OCD and ADD. I have imporved so much over the last year. Over the last few months I have been very unmotivated. I feel like I sleep all the time. There is clean laundry in baskets, dirty laundry in baskets clutter here and there. This is the time of year I should be motivated. We have a small in ground swimming pool and I love having friends and family over to share it with. I can't do that because the house is such a mess! I need motivation. I work 3rd shift at a childcare center so that takes a lot of my energy. I work in a toddler room with four tods by myself. Talk about stress. What the heck should I do? I look at my family and friends and see how clean and tidy their homes are and I think how could I consider having a child if I can't even take care of my husband and myself. I guess you can tell I'm also depressed right now. Any suggestion would be great!

I too have Bipolar II along with a handful of other disorders, including agoraphobia, Generalized Anixety Disorder, ADD, and Panic Disorder. I have trouble finding depression currently, as I am in a depressive episode and have been for quite some time. Taking my Lamictal/Abilify/Adderall XR cocktail has helped me find a little bit of motivation, not enough to get everything I need to get done though.

Medications for June 2011
03-05-2009 - Present:Adderall XR, 30mg. once daily
02-07-2011 - Present:Abilify, 2mg. twice daily
04-23-2011 - Present:Lamictal, 100mg. once daily

I am on Adderall XR, Lamictal, and Luvox CR.I forgot to mention before that I also have anxiety so as needed I take Lorazepam. As of two weeks ago I am on Ambien because I was having trouble getting/staying asleep long enough. Nothing has been new except the Ambien a few weeks ago. I don't know. This disorder is so frustrating! I never saw myself being like this when I was younger. The way I was brought up I guess I thought my house would magicaly be run like I was used to at home with the parents. (Haha ooo I make myself laught sometimes :) )

I know deep down you are right about making myself get up and do things. Thats the worst part. Maybe once I get my sleep leveled out a little it will get better. Thanks for you your input!

Maybe you could ask a family member to help you declutter and straighten things up. My Mom has troubles keeping the house decluttered. About once a year I'll go over and throw things away with her. Is your hubby doing any housework? Ask him to pitch in. Try working on one room a day.

My husband does help around the house. I am blessed to have a great husband. I would ask my mom over to help as you suggested but I hate to ask her to. I belive I inherited some of my issues from my grandmother. My mom has helped her declutter her house quite a bit over the years. Along with that their have been several other things that my mom has had to pan out in our family over the years. I feel she has just given so much of her self over those years that she needs to take time for herself and enjoy being Nana to my niece. My mom is probably the most likely to pitch in but I hate to put that on her once again. I think I may just have to take a long weekend sometime soon and just dig in. Easier said than done but somehow I have to get my behind up! :) Anyway thanks so much for your help. Will see how it goes. Maybe I'll find something out at my appointment next week.

Hey rose. It sounds as though you are having a depessive cycle and it is tough to get any motivation while in that dark place; however, having family and friends over for a pool party would be just the thing to bring up your mood and also provide you with a bit of motivation to get a few things done around the house.

Perhaps you might start with a small party (one or two couples) so you don't over do it on the first try. Write down who to invite, what simply foods can be prepared (and don't be afraid to have a pot-luck or BYOB sort of party). Next write down the minimum you would like/need to do around the house in order to feel uncomfortable with others in you home.

One hint, if you have doors you can close, move some of the clutter to that room and CLOSE the clutter behind that door. If you don't see it and your company can't see it you will have a much more comfortable time and you won't have to stress about cleaning the entire house for your small party.

It may be hard to do but if you are sitting on the couch or lying in bed anyway you can at least start with your list. Give it a go and see if that sparks a bit of motivation to move forward. If you can get some help from hubby to declutter then tuck and hide and PARTY, PARTY, PARTY.

I wish you peace for your future.

I no longer proofread my posts/replies so I apologize for all spelling errors. If I try to proofread my OCD takes over and can't get through a post without reading, re-reading, re-re-reading . . . well you get the jist of it

spott, Thank you for the encouraging words. I'm glad that someone else thinks a bit like I do :) We do have a room where the leftover clutter goes when we have company. Not the perfect solution but one that just has to be used sometimes. I think you are right about having people over. I feel bad because yesterday was father's day and I didn't go to our family function because I had a meltdown. I haven't done that in a long time acutally. Its also hard to be on a 3rd shift schedule and be able to attend a function that starts at 11am! Anyway I like the list idea. I will have to try that. Thanks again. You seem like a good advice giver :)
