I saw my pdoc and he took my off of Loxapine, Seroquel and Tryhexiphenadyl and put me on Safris. Am hoping to feel better in a couple of days.

That's great! My pdoc is slowly taking me off my typical antipsychotic too (Navane/Thiothixene). It's good, because these typicals can cause EPS over time. Once I had a mild dystonia, but it went away quickly.

I've heard good things about Saphris. I hear it is weight neutral, low on other side effects, helps with sleep, and is effective for many. My pdoc is kind of old school and would prescribe an atypical before drugs like Saphris and Latuda. Once I even asked for the Saphris and he sort of weaseled out of prescribing it. I'm on Seroquel XR and satisfied with it. Without it I probably wouldn't sleep. It also extinguished a mixed episode in the past.

I hope your med changes don't affect your stability. If I recall correctly you are doing pretty well. I don't know what my pdoc will do after I'm off of Thiothixene. I'm on plenty and there are plenty of reasons NOT to take me off any of the remaining ones.

Bob,

Good luck! Be sure to share your experiences. I have been on saphris for three weeks now, and I think it is working, but I am still having swings back and forth.

I hope you are able to sleep well on it, too, like they say. I think part of my issue with the sleeping thing is that I have never taken a sleeping pill, or anything like that. As soon as I take saphris, I feel that drugged feeling, but I don't necessarily feel sleepy -- I perk up a bit. I find this a little disturbing. I usually fall asleep shortly after.

Oh, and if you haven't taken it yet, it tastes great! (Just kidding).

Keep updating.

Carrie

Bob, I hope the Saphris works better than the other cocktail and gives you what you want and need.

I hadn't heard of it before visiting this site, but then I hadn't heard anyone discuss Seroquel/quetiapine before coming here. And that has turned out to be a life-saver for me.

Please do tell us how it's going as often as possible. We're all concerned that you get what you need and we all learn from your discussions.

I'd rather have a frontal lobotomy than a bottle in front of me.

Today is my 60th birthday. The Sapris is working well. My mood is balanced and I feel good. I do have a serious sinus infection that is a pain, but I don't think it is related to the med. I find that I only sleep for about 4 hours on the Saphris, so I have to take it when I go to bed, then take my Ambien and clonazepam when I wake to go back to sleep. Kind of a funny way to sleep all night, but it works.

Happy birthday, Bob!

I've had a similar problem with one medicine only keeping me asleep for four hours. For me, diazepam works quickly but will only give me four hours of sleep,

By contrast, Seroquel/quetiapine makes me sleep from midnight until ten or so in the morning, but it takes a while to kick in after I take it.

So, I take the diazepam and quetiapine together before going to bed and the diazepam gives me the first hour or two of sleep while the quetiapine works until mid morning (unless I set my alarm clock for earlier).

I hope you meds keep working well and giving you relief and the ability to enjoy life!

I take Saphris. It tastes awful and I fall asleep shortly after taking it. It has worked for me as an anti-psychotic where I didn't gain weight. I have actually lost 70 lbs since I started takimg it and have followed a food plan and an ecercise routine.

Bob,

Interesting that the saphris is only allowing you to sleep 4 hrs. My pdoc said it would allow me to sleep exactly 7 hrs. I was sleeping less and for shorter periods when I first started it, and then in the last few days, I started sleeping for 9 hrs (my usual sleep pattern). Then, last night, I slept for 12 hours! I have no idea...

Happy Birthday!

And I guess this means the restlessness is resolved (since you are not taking that med anymore?)

Very belated Happy Bday!

I found I slept wayyyyyy too much on Saphris. I'm glad I'm off that one and back on Trileptal, and also on Latuda. I'm glad that Saphris is working for u, though. If it works, keep taking it, but if it don't, make sure to let ur shrink know the next time u see him/her. That's the motto I always go by.

The Saphris is stil working and my restlessness is gone. My sinus infection is still bad, however, and the prednisone they gave me has given me strange dreams. They also gave me antibiotics. I am sticking to my meds as the answer to my problems. We had a nice, short party last night with the kids. Glad to see them and glad when they left. I really don't feel well.

Bob,

Sorry you are sick! But glad the Saphris is still working. You will feel really great when the sinus infection is over!

Prednisone is a type of steroid, right? Does it mess with your sleep at all? I could see where that would be a little tricky when going through med changes.

Hope you feel better soon.

Bob,

It's great that the restlessness is gone, since that was troubling you so much. Now, you can stay till the end of the meetings and say the Serenity Prayer.

Your victory is a light to the path of others who are still struggling with seemingly insurmountable difficulties that can be adequately addressed by finding the right medication.

P.

I'd rather have a frontal lobotomy than a bottle in front of me.
