Yesterday, I wasn't feeling well depression-wise and I couldn't figure out why. My period is super irregular (I have polycystic ovarian syndrome) and I woke up again not feeling well and with signs my period is coming. Does anyone else feel worsening depression before their period?

No, not really. I mean it could have something to do with your period making you moody and irritable, thus triggering your depression.
But I'm depressed pretty much every day, so i don't really notice a difference.

I absolutely do. I have endometriosis, so I actually didn't notice the correlation until I started tracking my moods and cycle. The irregularity tricked me I guess. Consistantly I have increased depression before my period. Its almost spooky. ;)

You aren't alone!

I used to have such severe depression before my period that I would become a suicidal pitiful weepy mess. My GYN took pity on me one visit when I told her about it. She placed me on the pill continuously. I no longer get a period, and I no longer get those horrible monthly deep dips in my depression, which was constant and severe enough before I was diagnosed with bipolar that I had ECT.
Just a thought you can discuss with your Pdoc and your GYN

Best Wishes,

Wendy

Hi Wendy,
I am not allowed to be on the pill, because it also caused my depression to worsen. It is kind of a catch 22. I have a doc. appt. next week so I will discuss it with her. Thanks for letting me know I am not alone.

When my daughter (who is on medication for depression) first tried the pill she became very depressed, crying everyday, and really inconsolable. Then she got involved with someone, and we wanted her on the pill to avoid the possibility of the pitter patter of little feet. So I asked her doc to try the pill I take, as I never had any emotional response to it. My daughter who lost it on the last one did wonderful on mine. She never had any emotional response to it at all, and her depression is actually improving despite the pill.

So if you want to try it the name is Zovia. It has done wonders for us.

Good luck Laurie,

Wendy

You might want to look into PMDD or Pre Menstrual Dysphoric Disorder. it's severe PMS that can include severe depression. I don't know what the treatment is for it, but knowing can be half the battle sometimes.

Love and hugs,
Tara
