when i look up effexor it seems like the side effect profile is weight loss but people on forums talk about weight gain.
has anyone on here had a change in weight on effexor? up or down?

I took effexor for about 2 months. My pdoc said, with regards to weight, that it should be neutral or maybe possible weight loss.
That was not my experience. I gained about 15-20 lbs.
What I LIKED about effexor is that my mood was better and it helped greatly w/ irritability but I had issues with insomnia and anxiety. The kind of anxiety that made it nearly impossible to pay attention to anything and it was next to impossible to sit still.(I think it was hypo mania. My pdoc disagrees.)
I'm pretty sure my weight gain was because I was eating to cope with the anxiety...but I tend to do that anyway.
Good luck!

Thanks for the input ;) In the past, i feel like i've gained weight on antidepressants (ssri, cymbalta) cause of lethargy and apathy. Fortunately, so far, the effexor seems weight neutral for me.

I'm still at 75mg and should be going up to 150mg (i want the nri part to kick in because i have chronic pain and tend towards low energy and pdoc says it's just ssri at lower doses...).

So far, so good. It seems to have improved my mood and lowered my anxiety some.

my doc just changed my meds from Celexa to Effexor because Celexa is not working for me. The only thing it did was make me gain weight which does not help with my depression or anxiety. Celexa worked great for a while but then I started experiencing a lot of "brain fog"..I can't concentrate at work and am making too many mistakes. This has shot my anxiety through the roof! I decided to give up caffeine and have gone 4 days without it. I heard caffeine can make anxiety worse so I guess it is worth a shot.
What is everyone's experience with weight gain/loss with Effexor?
