Hello, this is my first forum update. I'm almost 22yrs old and have been on seroquel since I was 16yrs old. I started out on 600mgs and now I'm on 150mgs. I'm doing really well at the moment and have come along way. I want to get off of seroquel eventually so one day I can have children and not be so tired :) If anyone has any tips on how to get off of seroquel xr safely, that would be much appreciated. Thankyou.

First advice would be to consult with your pdoc about this. It took me three months to get off Seroquel XR and it was rough. My pdoc was skeptical about whether I could get completely off it but increased my Lamictal and I made it. I won't lie. I am sure there were physical dt's with getting off it but I am so much happier without it not to mention the fact that the 56 lbs. gain has stopped going up though I haven't taken the weight back off right now. I was on Seroquel XR for a year and it did not control my cycling so I thought, why am I on this stuff. Oh and the cost. SOOOO glad to not have to pay for it. Out of pocket because I had no insurance was awful.
Many blessings and let us know how it is going.

Current medications as of 04-13-2012
02-21-2011 - Present: Lamictal (Lomotrigine), 200 mg. 1/2 in AM and 1/2 at night.
04-02-2011 - Present: Synthroid, 100 mcg. 1 in the morning
01-15-2012 - Present: Celexa, 200 mg. One per day
02-07-2012 - Present: Clonazepam, 1 mg. 1 @ bedtime

Thankyou for your reply Teri :) and it's great to hear that you got off of Seroquel Xr. I know what you mean about the weight gain, it's very fustrating, mine goes up and down all the time but I've been maintaining it a lot better now since I've been on 150mgs. I will definetly take your advice and see my doctor a lot more often about my medication. Thanks again and I'll keep you updated :)

Here's something interesting. I don't know if weight loss is your goal and/or having something more stabilizing mood wise. I was recently hospitalized and my pdoc did some major changes. He took me off Geodon. He reduced my Lamictal from 200mg twice a day to 100 mg twice a day. He reduced my clonazapam from .5 mg 3 at night to 1 at night. He added Abilify 5mg 1 tb per am. He added Topamax 100mg 1 tab @ bedtime. It's been a week and I feel better than I have in two years PLUS I have lost 11 lbs. since April 23rd. It think it's the Abilfy but I think the Topamax is helping. I will be interested to see if just the Abilify has that affect on you and pray that it helps you even out. Looking forward to hearing from you. :)
Please note my med info is not updated yet.

Seroquel XR hadn't stopped my bipolar cycling, it made the hypomania non-existent but I still got severely depressed, including suicidal thoughts.
