So I am at a point where I am finally seeing my moods stabilized through Abilify, which I am so thankful to God for that. But my anxiety has been more noticeable since I have gotten rid of the other issues. I am generally anxious almost all the time, although I have days where I feel less inhibited. It is usually anxiety about work in general, anxiety about social situations, and tormenting obsessive violent thoughts that seem to be involved with my anxiety. (For example, I will have intrusive thoughts of pencils stabbing in my eyes and I try to make them go away but I get very distressed by these and have to put my hand over my head just to calm myself down.) I also often have trouble catching my breath when at work, feel panicked, get frequent diarrhea and hives.
So I talked to my wonderful pdoc about this, and he just prescribed Clonazepam. I am just curious if anyone else has had similar anxiety symptoms as I have, along with bipolar, that has been successfully treated with this med. Any experiences? Thanks.

I have used klonopin before though I am not, currently. What I liked about most is that I only had to use it when I needed. Also I was given a very low dose so that I could adjust my dosage according to my level of anxiety and how well I felt after using other coping mechanisms.

Were you able to work while taking it? Did it make you drowsy or drunk feeling? It made me feel that way yesterday when I took it. But last night I took only a half (.25 mg) and it seemed to not have that effect. How well did it help with your anxiety?

I have tried Klonipin before, it was for a 4 month period or so when my anxiety was through the roof and I wasn't sleeping and couldn't even leave the house as far as my porch without having panic attacks and throwing up violently. Mine was prescribed for my Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, and Agoraphobia. It worked really well and relieved me of my suffering and constant, intrusive symptoms. I got to a point where I was well enough that the psych. took me off of it. But anyways, it helped significantly. I hope it helps you too. I also had almost no side effects I can say, the only one being dry mouth.

Medications for January 2012

01-01-2011 - Present:Xanax, .5mg.take one or two PRN

I've been on 1mg klonopin at night for over a year. I think it helped originally because compared to other benzos it seems milder, is longer acting and has a slower tolerance building profile. My new pdoc wants to see me get off of it and that's fine with me because i don't think it's adding much now. I've missed a dose before without incident which is good too.

Overall, i think benzos are tricky and a med to pay extra attention to but they can also be just the thing to help. And, out of them all, i'd definitely go with klonopin for best therapeutic results. I was prescribed ativan (lorazepam) as needed but my anxiety was so constant and it was hard to manage when to take it, it actually stressed me out to manage the med! And, i like valium a bit too much...

Hey I have been recently put on it(yesterday). Seems to work and help with the anxiety along with the Biopolar thing I'm going through daily. I'm so glad my caregiver decided to allow me to experiment with it. It's working good so far. She wants me back in like 3 weeks to see what it's done for me. ^_^

I take Klonopin .25mg twice a day as needed. I like it because it takes effect within 20 minutes and continues working for 6 to 8 hours. I would just say to be careful to only take as much as you're pdoc tells you is ok because this class of med can be addictive if overused. You can fight this anxiety with meds and all the tools you learn in therapy too. Don't give up and don't give in to the beast of anxiety!

Been on clorazapam for 6 years. I currently take 1.5 mg at night and it helps me sleep. Better sleep for me means I can handle my anxeity better the next day (most of the time). I have been through periods of higher anxiety and my doc has allowed me to ajust the dose in 0.5 mg incridments. (Any more than that and I need to see him and get a new percscription). I have been as low as .5 mg a day and as high has 4 mg a day. It does make me very tired.

If I miss my medication though, the "withdrawl" is crazy. Had a few hospitilizations due to other factors (not mental health) and because of the condition I was in (broken ribs, thought I ruptured my kidney for ex) they wouldn't give me my clorazopam. That was a rough ride. I couldn't figure out which was worse, the broken ribs or the way I felt from the "withdrawl" If you ever go off of it, you need to taper it down over months. It can be done, I have gotten very close, but then the anxiety returns so I still need it. Therapy alone isn't enough for me.

The clonazepan is a strond medicine and have some colateral effects. However This kind of pills help us to improve the general anxiouns troubles.
Keep on to the medicine and seek a phisicology,

I was put on Clonazepam recently due to having extreme anxiety concerning my family. I recently went off Prestiq and that's when my anxiety started. The anxiety itself was through the roof - making it impossible to sleep, almost impossible to leave the house for fear of my husband leaving and taking my daughter with him.

I am bipolar also. I'm finding that the dosage of Clonazepam that I'm on only works for a limited time so I might talk to my pdoc about changing the dosage a bit.
